"What an accent!" Khushi thought even while struggling to stand on her feet. She felt dizzy. She did not remember when was it last that she had food and her body was not supporting her while mind was too stressed out cause of it being a marriage under duress.
"Chote? Aisa koi kehtha hai?"( How can you say that Chote) Anjali chided her younger brother while Garima and Buaji looked at him disapprovingly.
"Saale saahab aapko yaad rakhna hai ki woh apki patni hai. Aisa chillane se kam nahi chalega!( You must remember you cannot yell at her for she is your wife now!) "Shyam made his appearance. Arnav saw Khushi's face brighten up. A muscle twitched in his jaw.
"Aap aagaye. Chalo ab mazaa aayega! Kaam hogya aapka?( You are back! Now it's gona be fun! Job done?!"Anjali enquired.
"Haan Rani saheba thodi si der hogayi muafi chahtha hun.( yeah! I apologise for being a trifle late)" he said.
"Arey aap maafi kyun maangthey hain! kehke hi tho gayein hai! ...( Why say sorry! You left informing me)"anjali took his arm!
Their conversation was going on but Arnav's blood rushed to his ears and he could not hear anything. The way Khushi's face transformed when Shyam walked in him got etched onto his mind. He felt like breaking something! anything. But for his Di, he would have broke that b@##$$&*'s neck.
An idea flashed on his mind and a slow lethal smile spread on his lips. Khushi was struggling to stand as her stamina gave in and it was past midnight! Arnav stepped closer to Khushi and he lifted her in his arms!!! before Shyam and the world and said "Di enough of this tamasha. I want to take my wife to bed."
Khushi just gaped at Arnav dumbfounded while Shyam grew very stiff!There was a sudden silence followed by several breaths sucked in shock! Then came Anjali and Nani's "chote" simultaneously.
"Chote yeh kya battameezi hai? neeche uthaaro Khushiji ko!( Chote Behave and Put Khushiji down!)"Anjali whispered to him.
"Di this is my wife, I am carrying and for god"s sake! Andany which way i am kinda' bearing half her weight for the past hour. You guys are goin on and on!" He yelled in English in his typical accented voice.
Khushi just stared at her husband's eyes and thought. 'Oh ! So this is how the mighty ASR looks when he is mad at someone or something!'
"Isi liye maine sab end karneka faislaa kiyaa hai. All right everybody... the wedding's done for the day." ( And that's why I HAVE DECIDED TO END THIS CIRCUS) He shouted as everyone made disapproving noises, Arnav looked at Khushi who was in his arms! Her lower lip was quivering. 'Was she nervous? or was she scared of his mighty temper? Eitherways it is going to be a win-win situation for him.' He thought.
Chote1Yeh ka keh rahain hai aap?( What are you saying Chote?)" Naani asked him
"Haan naani... i want us to retire for the day... he went on in english. I had a very hectic week and a rather heavy day. Now we are done and let us go. Finish your rituals tomorrow that is if we still last till then.Khushi chalo" He just walked through and everyone was left dumb struck!
Khushi did not know how to react. should she support her husband? as in a way he was right! But the way in which he brushed everyone aside was very rude. The others were just fulfilling the rituals and they were tierd too.
"Naahi Arnav bitua ek hi tho rasam bachaa hai taniq rukiye( No son! Only one more ritual left! please hold on!)"This time buaji pleaded and she rushed to make arrangements.
"Jo bhi hai buaji jaldi Kijiye( Do it fast! Whatever)" Arnav coaxed.
The ritual of Grihapravesh was done immediately and Arnav refused to put Khushi down. When Khushi had to push the urn of rice he placed her infront of it for a second and lifted her back in his arms. Khushi felt a strange feeling of security instead of being embarassed.
"Raani sahiba dekhiye saalesaab abhi se kitna khayaal rakh rahein hai Khushiji ka( Look! How concerned is your brother for his wife fron now on...)" Shyam teased.
"Woh tho my rakhunga JI... JJa... JJI! Kyunki Khushi meri patni hai aur myne shaadi ki isliye ki hamesha my use apne paas rakhoon!!! ( That i will! Coz she is my wife and i married her to have her with me for keeps!)"Arnav said and added only for Shyam as he was standing nearer," Khushi ab meri hai hamesha ke liye( She is mine FOREVER!)"very slowly and very lethally.However it was lost in the context as the rest of the crowd cheered and started telling Khushi how lucky she is to get a groom who was crazy for her.
Khushi jerked open her nerves with his admission. Why? Couldn't the great ASR not find any mighty lady? Why did he want her?
"Which way"Arnav asked her and she started and then showed him the way to the Lord Governer ki kothi. This particular quarters had a door to the inner pasage that garnered the pool and the main suit for privacy- an arrangement that was made for the then Lord and his lady.
Arnav walked in and then shut the passage door with his leg. He then took Khushi into the suit and put her down. He went to the side table picked up a glass with some juice in it and gave it to her saying..."drink this now!"
Khushi took the glass and stared at him not knowing what to say!
"What?"Arnav asked exasperatedly. "Khuchi just... DON'T stand like that DRINK that !
Khushi drank the whole juice in one swig scared- at his temper.
She saw a slight hint of amusement in his intense eyes but for a second. Arnav turned and left the room saying "freshen up and then call me. Quick!"
But what was she going to change into? She was supposed to get her bag after the final ritual which was rushed coz of her husband!
"Hey Devi Mayya ab hum kya karien? He is going to bite my head off if i even try explaining this."She flopped on the bed.
